Day 1 of 7 down pat! This email is to provide more detailed information for you relating to the following:
school owned devices rollout to families
how the specialist programme will work online for students
how students submit work in the google classroom
SCHOOL OWNED DEVICES
It was great to see so many of you come up today to collect one of the 114 devices that we issued out to support students access to our home learning programme! This is outstanding! We are going to remain available at school tomorrow (Tuesday) from 9.00a.m. to 1.00p.m. for any families who were not able to pick up a device today.
If you are having trouble getting up to school to collect a device (eg some of our families are currently isolating awaiting test results, or are sick, or vulnerable), please email me and I will see what we can do to help.
A reminder to parents that if you have borrowed a school device, it is on the understanding that students use these devices to access their online classroom and their Mathletics. It is not for them to access their social media accounts. A letter did accompany the device - so please do read this and get your child to read it as well.
If you child is having trouble accessing either Mathletics or their google classroom, please do contact the class teacher.
SUBMITTING WORK FOR MARKING/FEEDBACK
As students complete tasks and activities that they have been assigned in the google classroom, they need to "turn these in" to the teacher for marking via the google classroom. Sometimes parents are unaware of how this works and so I have provided a video made by Miss Williams which clearly shows how to do this.
A lot of students find it easier to simply email or "reshare" the documents with their teacher, however this means the teacher is unable to efficiently make suggestions or provide feedback so the student can "resubmit".
The link to the video on how students submit work is here.
SPECIALIST PROGRAMME
Specialist teachers will be allocating two time slots each week to Matauranga hubs for specialist classes. Specialist teachers will be offering five different classes at the same time and students are encouraged to join the lesson that they are most interested in.
Teachers will share the google meeting information students need with their class at the start of the day so students are easily able to join their selected class. They can only join 5 minutes before the lesson starts. Lessons are offered between 10.30a.m. and 11.30 and 1.00p.m. to 2.00p.m. each day but for different hubs as indicated. We encourage students to join at least one specialist class offered for their class each week.
The specialist timetable for the week is below:
I do hope you are all staying safe in your bubbles and that things are going well for you and your family. If there is anything at all that we can do to assist during this time, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Warm regards
Cathy Chalmers
