OUR SCHOOL AIMS and OBJECTIVES

Aims are broad statements of intended outcomes.  Aims highlight each of the main areas in which the school expects to demonstrate performance and achievement in relation to the government’s National Education Goals and National Administration Guidelines.

Plans and Policies Nag 2/6

AIMS                                                           OBJECTIVES

 
Develop a school charter and strategic plan which reflects national school and community priorities.
To develop policies and practises which acknowledge the value of the Treaty of Waitangi and reflect New Zealand’s bi-cultural identity and multicultural society taking all reasonable steps to ensure that the needs and wants of the community are met.
Develop and implement school policies and plans and programmes to show how the school is meeting its obligations in relation to the National Administration Guidelines and National Education Guidelines complying with all general legislation requirements.
 
 
The school’s plans and policies will be implemented in ways that are sensitive to the cultural backgrounds and values of individual children and their families. This includes recognition of the unique position of the Maori people. Options for bilingual or immersion education will be made available should a representation of our school community request it.
A strategic plan for achievement of Maori pupils will be developed in consultation with Maori community to facilitate programme development.

Student Achievement Nag 1

AIMS                                                            OBJECTIVES

 
Identify student learning needs by monitoring and evaluating progress using up-to-date and varied assessment practices with first priority given to numeracy and literacy.
Identify and analyse achievement trends of target groups of students across the school in relation to National Standards, identifying aspects of teaching and learning which require particular emphasis to improve student outcomes for those who are not achieving.
Develop and implement teaching and learning strategies to address areas of need identified through analysis of school-wide achievement information.
 
         
Ongoing and accurate records of individual student progress and achievement will be maintained with particular emphasis on literacy and numeracy. Both formative and summative assessment practices will be utilized to inform teaching and learning. 
Each year target areas and groups will be identified and a plan for improving student achievement in relation to national standards set. Achievement information of target areas will be analyzed and reported to BOT & community.
 

Learning Programmes Nag 1

AIMS                                                            OBJECTIVES

 
Foster high standards of on-going achievement through the development and implementation of balanced teaching and learning programmes with opportunities for all students (including gifted and talented) to experience success in all Learning Areas.
Develop and implement programmes in Tikanga Maori and te reo Maori, to foster achievement of Maori pupils, and responding to the needs and wants of the school community.
Develop and regularly implement quality physical activity programmes that develops movement skills for all students.
Provide appropriate career education and guidance for all students.
 
  
      Each year the BoT through the principal and staff will prepare an annual plan which will drive school wide curriculum development and implementation with priority given to numeracy and literacy. Priority curriculum areas will be selected for in depth review as part of the annual development plan.
 

Student Engagement Nag 1

AIMS                                                            OBJECTIVES


 
Promote values needed to become full members of society.
Foster student engagement and success for all students by identifying and addressing barriers to learning and ongoing achievement.
 

 
The school will develop and use a range of positive strategies, programmes and practises to foster student engagement including transition, EOTC, extra curriculum programmes, leadership opportunities etc.

Community Consultation and Reporting Nag 2

AIMS                                                        OBJECTIVES

 
Develop and maintain an on-going cycle of self review relating to the strategic plan, reporting to the community on the realization of school goals and the progress of student achievement in relation to National Standards.
Consult with the school community (including Maori community) to develop/confirm school direction, goals and targets for achievement.
Report to students and their parents on the student’s progress and achievement in relation to National Standards.
On the basis of comprehensive assessment practices, report school level data annually to the Board of Trustees in relation to achievement of students against National Standards.
 
  
 The Board will have an annual time plan for the ongoing review of its plans and policies, incorporating specific focus areas. Reports from reviews will form the basis of deciding priorities for school development and improvement. 
Effective methods for consulting and reporting to the community on achievement in relation to National Standards and school direction will be developed and actioned to ensure they are an integral part of the cyclic review process.
 
Reporting to parents in plain language will be carried out at least twice a year, outlining student’s progress against National Standards.

Employment - Nag 3

AIMS                                                                     OBJECTIVES

 
Promote high levels of staff performance, providing a planned professional development programme which will equip staff to deliver curriculum to a high level.
Establish and maintain systems that ensure the BOT fulfils its role as a “good employer”.
 
  
        In consultation with staff, the Board will prepare policies to reflect its commitment to being a good employer. Policies will be reviewed regularly and revised as necessary. 
The Board will demonstrate its commitment to promoting high levels of staff performance by making appropriate budget allocation to support the professional development plan. This will be prepared annually to support school direction and goals and individual needs as part of the performance management process.
 

Physical, Emotional & Social Safety - Nag 5

AIMS                                                                 OBJECTIVES

 
To comply with legislation and provide a safe physical and emotional environment for students and staff.
Promote healthy food and nutrition choices for all students.

The Board will consult annually with the community regarding the schools Health Programme.
The Board will implement an on-going plan for the promotion of effective safety, healthy eating and hygiene practises.
School-wide behaviour management plans and systems will foster children’s emotional well being and place emphasis on the school’s core values; respect, cooperation, perseverance and tolerance.
 

Asset Management - Nag 4

AIMS                                                                    OBJECTIVES

 
Allocate funds to reflect the school’s priorities. Monitor and control school expenditure, ensuring annual accounts are prepared and audited.
Implement 10 year property plan ensuring an efficient programme of maintenance and improvements for school buildings and facilities.
Maintain and improve the physical environment to promote school image to attract new students and to ensure agreeable working conditions for staff.
 
  
     The Board will prepare an annual budget to fund the school’s curriculum, personnel, property and administration activities. The Board will monitor and control income and expenditure throughout the year, and ensure the preparation, audit and publication of annual accounts.
The Board will oversee the implementation of the 10 year property plan, ensuring maintenance and development of grounds and facilities is carried out.
