Attendance

Why is regular school attendance important for students?
Regular attendance at school is fundamental to student learning. Students who attend school regularly are more likely to achieve educational success, and increase their future career and life options.  A student who attends school regularly attends school 90+% of the time.  Students who achieve this are awarded a certificate at the end of each term.

Parents need to let us know why their child is absent so we can record the reason for absence.  Unexplained absences "default" in the system to "truant" so it is important that the proper reason be recorded.  Parents can let us know why their child is absent by using any one of the following methods:

  1. A phone call to the office (press 1 to leave an absence message)
  2. A note or email to the class teacher or school office (reception@greenmeadows.school.nz)
  3. From our school app (download from "SchoolApps" in the App Store or Google Play store)
  4. Pop in to the office to let us know.

We operate an electronic register which is marked in the classroom by 9.00a.m.  The school office then checks all absences and will contact the parents of any students whose absence is unexplained.

What if I want my child to leave school during the day?
Parents needing to collect children for any reason need to visit the school office first to sign them out before collecting them from the classroom. We are unable to release them from class to wait unsupervised at the gates – they must be collected from the office.
Children are not allowed to go home for lunch unless the parent collects them from school.
We will sometimes question the person collecting children from school to make sure they have parental permission – and often ring to check. Please don’t be offended if this is the case – we just want to make sure we only let children leave with an approved person.
